On Sunday 18 September 2016 Make Smoking History will air the state-wide campaign ‘Last Dance’. The television commercial was launched in 2013 throughout Victoria and was developed and produced by Quit Victoria. It first went to air in Western Australia earlier in 2016 across May and June.
In the emotional advertisement a family is seen spending precious time with one another in their home. It is evident that the father is in the final stages of his fight with cancer. During the ad the mother carefully assists her dying husband out of bed so the two can share one final dance, set to the tune of 'Que Sera Sera’, while their son looks on from the kitchen. It ends with the tag line “What will be doesn’t have to be”, referring to how people that smoke can greatly reduce their risk of cancer by quitting smoking.
The ‘Last Dance’ campaign will run in metropolitan and regional areas from Sunday 18 September to Saturday 29 October 2016, including 30 second TV advertisements, complemented by online and social media advertising. Smokers will be encouraged to visit the Make Smoking History website.
